Chapter 5

Verse

Descendants of Adam

• 1. THIS is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

    • זֶה סֵפֶר תּוֹלְדֹת אָדָם בְּיוֹם בְּרֹא אֱלֹהִים אָדָם בִּדְמוּת אֱלֹהִים עָשָׂה אֹתֽוֹ׃
• 2. Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

    • זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה בְּרָאָם וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתָם וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמָם אָדָם בְּיוֹם הִבָּֽרְאָֽם׃ ס
• 3. And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

    • וַֽיְחִי אָדָם שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בִּדְמוּתוֹ כְּצַלְמוֹ וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמוֹ שֵֽׁת׃
• 4. And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

    • וַיִּֽהְיוּ יְמֵי־אָדָם אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־שֵׁת שְׁמֹנֶה מֵאֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 5. And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

    • וַיִּֽהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי אָדָם אֲשֶׁר־חַי תְּשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וּשְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס
• 6. And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

    • וַֽיְחִי־שֵׁת חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃
• 7. And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַֽיְחִי־שֵׁת אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־אֱנוֹשׁ שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 8. And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

    • וַיִּֽהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי־שֵׁת שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס
• 9. And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:

    • וַֽיְחִי אֱנוֹשׁ תִּשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־קֵינָֽן׃
• 10. And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַֽיְחִי אֱנוֹשׁ אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־קֵינָן חֲמֵשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 11. And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

    • וַיִּֽהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי אֱנוֹשׁ חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס
• 12. And Cainan lived seventy years, and begat Mahalaleel:

    • וַֽיְחִי קֵינָן שִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־מַֽהֲלַלְאֵֽל׃
• 13. And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַיְחִי קֵינָן אַחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־מַֽהֲלַלְאֵל אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 14. And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

    • וַיִּֽהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי קֵינָן עֶשֶׂר שָׁנִים וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס
• 15. And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:

    • וַֽיְחִי מַֽהֲלַלְאֵל חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־יָֽרֶד׃
• 16. And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַֽיְחִי מַֽהֲלַלְאֵל אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־יֶרֶד שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 17. And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.

    • וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי מַהֲלַלְאֵל חָמֵשׁ וְתִשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס

God Take Up Enoch

• 18. And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:

    • וַֽיְחִי־יֶרֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־חֲנֽוֹךְ׃
• 19. And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַֽיְחִי־יֶרֶד אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־חֲנוֹךְ שְׁמֹנֶה מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 20. And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.

    • וַיִּֽהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי־יֶרֶד שְׁתַּיִם וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ פ
• 21. And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

    • וַֽיְחִי חֲנוֹךְ חָמֵשׁ וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־מְתוּשָֽׁלַח׃
• 22. And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַיִּתְהַלֵּךְ חֲנוֹךְ אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִים אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־מְתוּשֶׁלַח שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 23. And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

    • וַיְהִי כָּל־יְמֵי חֲנוֹךְ חָמֵשׁ וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָֽה׃
• 24. And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

    • וַיִּתְהַלֵּךְ חֲנוֹךְ אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִים וְאֵינֶנּוּ כִּֽי־לָקַח אֹתוֹ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ פ

From Methuselah to Noah

• 25. And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech:

    • וַיְחִי מְתוּשֶׁלַח שֶׁבַע וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד אֶת־לָֽמֶךְ׃
• 26. And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:

    • וַֽיְחִי מְתוּשֶׁלַח אַֽחֲרֵי הוֹלִידוֹ אֶת־לֶמֶךְ שְׁתַּיִם וּשְׁמוֹנִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בָּנִים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
• 27. And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

    • וַיִּהְיוּ כָּל־יְמֵי מְתוּשֶׁלַח תֵּשַׁע וְשִׁשִּׁים שָׁנָה וּתְשַׁע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ פ
• 28. And Lamech lived and hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
  
  • Hebrew
    • וַֽיְחִי־לֶמֶךְ שְׁתַּיִם וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה וּמְאַת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד בֵּֽן׃
• 29.↓ And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.

    • וַיִּקְרָא אֶת־שְׁמוֹ נֹחַ לֵאמֹר זֶה יְנַחֲמֵנוּ מִֽמַּעֲשֵׂנוּ וּמֵעִצְּבוֹן יָדֵינוּ מִן־הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אֵֽרְרָהּ יְהוָֽה׃

• 30. And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:

• 31. And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.

    • וַֽיְהִי כָּל־יְמֵי־לֶמֶךְ שֶׁבַע וְשִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס
• 32. And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

    • וַֽיְהִי־נֹחַ בֶּן־חֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וַיּוֹלֶד נֹחַ אֶת־שֵׁם אֶת־חָם וְאֶת־יָֽפֶת׃
