Chapter 6
Spiritual Maturity Part 2
and a New and Better Priestly Covenant
The Danger of Failing to Mature - Part 2
-
1. Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection;
not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of
faith toward God,
-
-
2. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection
of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
-
-
3. And this will we do, if God permit.
-
-
4. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted
of the heavenly gifts, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
-
-
5. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the
world to come,
-
-
6. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they
crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him
to an open shame.
-
-
7. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them
by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
-
-
8. But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected. and is nigh unto
cursing; whose end is to be burned.
-
Better Things Ahead
-
9.↓ But , beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
-
-
Notes
-
° By participating in the things that accompany salvation, better things are ahead for you
° What are those better things?
° Your inheritance, rewards for faithful service, contentment in this life, joy regardless of circumstances, perservering in the faith, peace, provision, He has promised not to forsake you, strength, a sound mind, etc.
° Take on the name of the King and go be a bold ambassador for Him!
Psalms 139:20 — For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
-
10.↓ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have
shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
-
-
Notes
-
° God is faithful and just King!
° He does not forget all that you do on behalf of the Kingdom
° How many of you feel like you have labored and worked before and not been recognized
° This verse is the encouragement that you may not see the reward for your work in this life, but rather later in the Kingdom and God has forgotten your suffering and laboring on His behalf
° PRESS ON!
° If you believe God is righteous and just, then you should also be quick to always forgive
° Not forgiving someone means that you do not think the Lord will vindicate you and the situation
° Thus, you believe you need to take that situation into your own hands
Romans 12:19 — Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.
° Let go of that bitterness, forgive those who have wronged you, and trust that He alone will remedy the situation, even if it is not until the Kingdom
° He does not forget your ministry if you are serving Jesus!
-
11.↓ And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope
unto the end:
-
-
Notes
-
° Finishing strong is the name of the game
° You must walk with diligence until the end
° God's standard is that when sin happens you remedy it immediately
° Do not let sin beset you and kee you in chains, you must take mastery of your sin nature (that does not mean perfection, it means using God's tools to)
° Look at David vs. Solomon (Finish strong!)
° A man after God's own heart vs. one who despite all his wealth is not even clothed as a flower in the field
Matthew 6:28 — And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Matthew 6:29 — And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
-
12.↓ That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the
promises.
-
-
Notes
-
13. For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware
by himself,
-
-
14. Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
-
-
15. And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
-
The Anchor for Our Soul
-
16. For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for
confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
-
-
17.Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his
counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
-
-
18. That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge
to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
-
-
19. Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil:
-
-
20. Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the
order of Melchisedec.
-
