The Beginning:
Earth, Man, Sin, Nations, and Israel
Notes
-
° Genesis means "origin," "source,"birth." The meaning closest to that of the original "birth."
° Genesis is a book of beginnings, but more particularly it is the book of births and introduces the central themes of the bible,
such as creation, beginning of Israel, and God's redemption plan for mankind. The book of Genesis begins it all.
It tells how God brought everything into existence by his own words, "God said". And God (Elohim) declares that
it was all good.
° After creation, sin is introduced and begins the fall of man. The story progress through how man thoughts are only
evil and God destroys all mankind with a flood except for Noah and his family. From there we see how God confused mankind
and dispersed them over the earth. It records a mighty earthquake after the fall of the Tower of Babel.
° The remainder of the book show how the nation of Israel is created with the biblical patriarchs of Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.
