Chapter 4 closes and 5 opens with Jesus as our High Priest

Hebrews 4:14 — Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed
into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Hebrews 4:15 — For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with
the feeling of our infimities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:16 — Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we
may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
- Chapter 5 closes with the beginning of the third warning in Hebrews
- This warning is linked to Jesus being our High Priest

Since Jesus' priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek there are many
revelations the Holy Spirit would like to say, but then declares He cannot
- Entire book is written to the believers
- These warnings are here for us so we can be victorious in our walk with the Lord
Jesus' Priesthood

1.↓ For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things
pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.

- Πᾶς γὰρ ἀρχιερεὺς ἐξ ἀνθρώπων λαμβανόμενος ὑπὲρ ἀνθρώπων καθίσταται τὰ πρὸς τὸν θεόν ἵνα προσφέρῃ δῶρά τε καὶ θυσίας ὑπὲρ ἁμαρτιῶν

- 1. The high priest was ordained by God directly
- 2. It was not an office by choice, it was a calling
- 3. The calling was to be the representative of the people before Almighty God

2.↓ Who can have compassion on the ignorant and on
them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

- μετριοπαθεῖν δυνάμενος τοῖς ἀγνοοῦσιν καὶ πλανωμένοις ἐπεὶ καὶ αὐτὸς περίκειται ἀσθένειαν

1. The Greek word for "ignorant" here is "agnoeō" and means to err or sin through
mistake, to be wrong.

2. The Greek word for "on them that are out of the way" is "planaō" and means to
lead away from the truth, to lead into error, to deceive, to be led into error,
to be led aside from the path of virtue, to go astray, sin, to sever or fall
away from the truth; of heretics

3. And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
