° Ye-hos-shua (Joshua) is a variant form of Jesus (Greek)
° Prophetically Joshua will foretell of God's plan to cleanse the land before ruling and reigning

Exodus 33-11 — And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed
not out of the tabernacle.
° As a king, Joshua was the military commander of Israel
° Ye-ho-Shua means "The Lord is Salvation" in Hebrew (Jesus in Greek)
° Jesus is our advocate when we have suffered defeat, which is foreshadowed in Joshua 7:5-9 when they are defeated by the men of Ai

MF-NCC
Exodus 6:6 — Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will
redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:
° Leviticus is about the manner of worship, and it only covers approximately two months of history
° The main point of Leviticus is fellowship and worship (the tabernacle, sanctification, holiness, righteous, sacrifice, etc.)
° In Numbers we explore the wilderness wanderings, and the main focal point is on the failure of unbelief, the failure to enter into God's call overcoming the attempt to keep you from your calling, and that we should go and occupy
° In Deuteronomy, the Lord teaches us how obedience is a precondition to occupation
° Joshua then acts as a bridge between the first five books of the Bible where God is moving Israel to the land and the next eight books of the Bible where Israel is in the land (Judges, Ruth, I & II Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and I & II Chronicles)
° Joshua covers the conquest of the Land
° The iniquity of the Amorities was now full, and it was time for God's people to take ownership of their call
MF-NCC
Genesis 15:16 — But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
° The land was to vomit out its inhabitants
MF-NCC
Leviticus 18:25 — And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself womiteth out her inhabitants.
° It is interesting that the land was holy before God's people arrived!
° Joshua is a book all about strength, war, trusting God, and acting as God calls to act
° God calls us a part of His army!
MF-NCC
Revelation 19:14 — And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
° The Lord wants us to take the offensive, go out and make disciples!
MF-NCC
Matthew 16:18 — And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
° As Christians we sometimes live as prisonmers of war!
° Joshua is about living a victorious Christian life
MF-NCC
I John 5:4 — For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
° Joshua is for our times today, this is a call to obedience and action!

° We have that same privilege in Christ!
MF-NCC
See → Ephesians 1:3-5
° If we will not take His name in vain, go out and conquer where He call us, then we too can enter His rest in His promises
° This is not about life after death
° This study will be about life after birth!
° The Lord's goal is not just deliverance from Egypt, but to the Promised Land
MF-NCC
Exodus 3:7 — And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
Exodus 3:8 — And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites,
and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
° The book of Hebrews builds upon and calls us to enter into His rest, and the entire book is structured around five warnings of what not to do
° A Christian should not work up from victory, we should work down from it(Moses representing the law and Joshua representing the victory)
° The children of Israel crossed two bodies of water in water in their journey from bondage to the promised land
° The first was the Red Sea after being saved by the blood of the Passover Lamb
° The second was the Jordan River to enter the promised land
° God parted the Red Sea for His children to escape bondage, and it was a large body of water standing still at the time
° However, His people had to enter the Jordan to make a way a way to the promise land
° His people had to act in order to cross that boundary
° It was a roaring river where they had to fully trust God first;; at the Red Sea the way was made for them, however, at the Jordan they had to take that step
MF-NCC
See → Joshua 3:8-13
° They crossed the Jordan at Bethabara, which means "The House of Crossing"
° John the Baptist was baptizing people in the same location

and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
° The children of Israel that were born in the wilderness were never circumcised
° God instructs Joshua to circumcise them on the 10th of Nisan at Gilgal
° Then, they waited until they were healed, they kept the Passover on the 14th of Nisan, and then crossed over the Jordan
MF-NCC
See → Joshua 5:5-9
° What does crossing the Jordan symbolize for us?
° God numbered their years in the wilderness according to how many days they searched out the promise land
MF-NCC
See → Numbers 14:28-41
° The campaign in conquering the land took approximately five years
° Canaan does not symbolize heaven, there are wars going on in the promised land
° There is conquest through conflict in Canaan, rooting out old enemies who did not belong
° Israel came not as pilgrims, but as conquerors to take possession of a promise from Almighty God!
MF-NCC
Romans 8:37 — Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
° Conqueroring the enemies in Canaan is the equivalent for us today to enter into Gods rest
MF-NCC
See →Deuteronomy 6:10-12
Leviticus 26:6 — And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land,
